Nanny Dysautonomia
If you are a Facebook friend of DYNA you will have heard about Nanny Dysautonomia. Her kind-hearted words of wisdom are highly respected by her DYNA family and she passes these on to the public via DYNA’s Facebook page.
Born Irene Henderson in 1920, "Nanny" was raised in northern England. Her natural talents are in writing, editing, gardening and knitting. She is a born pet lover, a natural people person and she has a kind heart and loving spirit. During World War II, she proudly served in the Women’s Royal Naval Service where she learned a great deal about life and hardships. At a dance for the US Troops, Irene met an American Army Air Corps serviceman from New York. The handsome young man was quite a dancer and he literally swept Irene off her feet. The two soon fell in love and became engaged. After the war ended Irene came to America as a War Bride on the Queen Elizabeth. She has three children, 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Irene has volunteered for DYNA for many years and has become close to many Youth Ambassadors. She deeply respects the strength and determination of these exceptional young people. The affection is mutual and many DYNA Youth Ambassadors have come to call her “Nanny.”
